Case Studies and Portfolio
TradeNation
Giving the confidence to your fellow team members for them to believe in their own actions is one of the most satisfying aspects of any management role. Not only are they are empowered, the feeling of ownership, control and delivery of the task brings an immense feeling of satisfaction to them – as was the case here.
A prospective client had initially failed their appropriateness test, a process by which the firm is able to ascertain if the client has the necessary knowledge and skill to understand the financial instrument to which he would like to use. After a quick consultation and briefing, he was was able to write a polite and instructive communication to the prospective client setting out why they were initially refused and what they could to further their knowledge. He came under some pressure to approve the account, but he declined. Showing courage, regulatory knowledge, and a recognition of reputational risk, he suggested the client take 4-6 weeks to familiarise himself with derivatives training.
The client finally accepted his judgement, applied two months later, and was approved. The firm could be confident in now opening the account and excellence in regulatory compliance and positive company outcome was achieved.
Importantly, the foundations of confidence, acting with integrity, communication and knowledge were polished still further.
